First-of-its-kind degree program at Southern University and A&M College formed in partnership with ΒιΆΉΣ³» Foundation, the Louisiana Department of Insurance, and the Spencer Educational Foundation
IRVINE, CA β The , in partnership with Southern University and A&M College, the Louisiana Department of Insurance, and the Spencer Educational Foundation, has received final approval from the Louisiana State Board of Regents on a first-of-its-kind insurance degree program.
The ΒιΆΉΣ³» Foundation Degree Plan Program at Southern University and A&M College will focus on increasing access to the insurance industry through education and career opportunities. The ΒιΆΉΣ³» Foundation is granting the Southern University System an initial investment of $1.4 million over a three-year period to support the program.
βThe ΒιΆΉΣ³» Foundation Degree Plan Program represents a landmark moment in moving the needle on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the insurance industry,β said Lilian Vanvieldt, ΒιΆΉΣ³» Foundation Board Chair. βSouthern University students will now have access to a cutting-edge program that provides deep industry knowledge and a path to a long and thriving career in insurance.β
Beginning in the 2024-2025 school year, students can obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance, ΒιΆΉΣ³», and Insurance. Students pursuing this major will complete coursework that educates them on risk management techniques and insurance coverage and equips them with vital risk management tools for application in a breadth of real-world situations and career planning opportunities.
In addition to the creation of the academic program, the ΒιΆΉΣ³» Foundation has committed to investing in the careers of current and future Southern University students through a range of supporting initiatives. This includes outreach, internship opportunities, and support with job placement.
